The wind-up continues... I'm preparing a new 'rave' during the reconstruction but in the mean time here's last year ranting! Friends, Romans and countrymen lend me your ears.. At the moment I am trying to put together a new 'rant and rave' piece for the 'brand new millennium'. I hope to have it finished by the end of the month, and as before, I will be encouraging you to reply with your own comments that I will, with pleasure publish on the new page. The idea is to continue to expose and point an accusing finger at the con artists 'running riot' through the whole tribute band scene, giving the genuine acts a bad name. Towards the end of 1999 it was Ally Ross from 'The Sun' newspaper who highlighted the amazing ability of Bjorn Again to be able to play two or more venues simultaneously on the same night! this theory seemed to be proved by an email I received in January. BBC New Years Eve, the show cuts to Belfast. "This is Belfast, we're all having a great time dancing to Bjorn Again". Pan to the stage where 'Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight' is playing. The dance routine looks familiar, but the similarity ends there! A severe case of 'vu ja de' ( I've never seen them before!). I suppose that their management considers that (disguised by the use of 'extremely funny' mock Swedish accents and satin suits) 'Joe Public' will be too dim to notice that it must have been a version two or even three! Last month 'The Stage' newspaper ran an article about Idle Hands, an agency who tried ( as far as I understand it) at one event, to substitute one of their own bands for the already booked 'Real Abba Gold', again expecting that nobody would even question it . Unfortunately for Idle Hands they did! Its our duty to do all we can to stop this sort of unprofessional conduct as well as trying to pull the plug on the 'kareoke' bands.'Live should mean 'live' and as far as Fabba is concerned, it means just that! Obviously I don't expect everybody to agree with my point of view in fact I have had replies that range from 'why not use your time more creatively' right through to 'pick on someone your own size'. I will however, continue to use this page to air my personal biased opinions. After all, what is a soapbox for? If this still means absolutely nothing to you, then please visit our Scrapbook where I have archived the page from last year. |
